when i went post-xmas shopping with my mom (the single time i stepped out of my parents house during break. i know, sosad), we wandered around the mall (big mistake; banana republic line = 1.5 hrs omgwtfbbq) and eventually into a club monaco. GOD what a fantastic store. if i won the lottery tomorrow that is definitely all i would wear.

i am excited!! my classmate found an old sewing machine in his family's garage. because nobody in his family sews, he is lending it to me!!

i think i am gonna get serious about the "no new clothes for the entire year of 2010" thing. my spending habits are so wasteful. my trunk is perpetually full of stuff that i need to bring to Buffalo Exchange (damn you Inland Empire for not having one!!!!!) and i only wear like 15% of what I own. PLUS I have a HUGE stock of fabric and bric-a-brac just laying around, doing nothing. well fuck that! i am gonna make my own shit!! here's my middle finger in your face, american consumerism!

two big projects as a treat for myself this weekend:

1. skirt

2. trying to retailor this plaid button up i got for $5 at wetseal. it fits really weird around the chest and shoulders (you get what you pay for!). this is supposedly the most difficult part to fit, so even if it doesn't work out, i'll have learned a lot about construction in the end.

What is Osteopathic Medicine?

Osteopathic medicine is a unique form of American medical care that was started in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., D.O. Dr. Still was dissatisfied with the effectiveness of 19th century medicine. He believed that many of the medications of his day were useless or even harmful. Dr. Still was one of the first in his time to study the attributes of good health so that he could better understand the process of disease.

In response, Dr. Still developed a philosophy of medicine based on ideas that date back to Hippocrates, the father of medicine. That philosophy focuses on the unity of all body parts. Dr. Still identified the musculoskeletal system as a key element of health. He recognized the body's ability to heal itself and stressed preventive medicine, eating properly and keeping fit.

Dr. Still pioneered the concept of "wellness" more than 130 years ago. In today's terms, D.O.s evaluate each patient's personal health risks-such as smoking, high blood pressure, excessive cholesterol levels, stress and other lifestyle factors. In coordination with prescribing appropriate medical treatment, osteopathic physicians act as teachers to help patients take more responsibility for their well-being and to change un-healthy patterns.
